5 things that grace is TOTALLY loving right now...

it's been a while since i just posted a random blog (not one updating my whereabouts and/or activities) and i'm doing it because i just wanted to share a couple things that i am currently LOVING right now...

1. big love - (wikipedia says...) saw a preview for this on my TV when i was at the hotel in omaha and rented (and watched) the entire season this weekend...and now i am totally invested in all the characters and am pissed that i don't have HBO which means i have to wait until season 2 comes out on DVD!

2. blockbuster total access - (wikipedia says...) i know some people have a personal thing against blockbuster (much like my thing against starbucks and walmart) but the total access pass is great because you really literally are pretty much NEVER without a movie and if netflix offered the same service i would totally go with netflix instead of blockbuster, but since they don't, then i won't....besides, blockbuster total access is keeping me sane and happy for the rest of the summer and that, my friends, is a good thing...

3. knocked up - (wikipedia says...) wow, even the TAGLINE is hilarious...(very 40 year old virgin-esque cover by the way...with the big headshot, etc.) omg, totally hilarious movie...go see it if you haven't! seriously one of the better comedies i've seen...i don't know if i'd classify it as romantic...probably wasn't because i am currently hating (and have been for a while) romantic comedies...

4. paul rudd - (wikipedia says...(sidenote: good things come from jersey...)) so, i heart him. i loved him in clueless...i loved him the object of my affection...i loved him in friends...i loved him in 40 year old vigrin...and i love him knocked up. (he's going in my top 5...i'm not sure who i'll have to drop now...)

5. haagen daaz rasberry sorbet - sorta like ice cream, but with less fat...and since i clearly am doing very little moving about this summer in the heat of AZ (okay, i know the gym is literally like 10 steps from my apartment, but still) less fat is a good thing...

Summer Associate Trip to Omaha, Nebraska
(yes, that's right, OMAHA)

so, like many summer associates working at law firms this summer, i, as kutak rock's summer was fortunate enough to get a couple days of work and venture off to an exotic place called OMAHA...actually, as many of you know, i was really excited to see a new city/state...unfortunately (or maybe not) i didn't get as many pics as i would've liked as i wasn't sure if my new summer associate colleagues would understand my sometimes fanatical picture taking (here are all of the pics)...and despite my hesitation to be "odd", i still managed to sneak off and get george a shot at the (here)...

so...according to our "tour guide:

On Monday and Tuesday next week, June 25-26, we willcelebrate our summer program and welcome summer associates from Denver,Scottsdale and Wichita to Omaha. In addition to giving youevent/meeting details, this e-mail includes the resumes of allparticipating summer associates.

yes, that's right, they published ALL of our resumes so we could all see how impressive we all are...a little humbling, but i guess it was also interesting to see the backgrounds of all the other summers...

Take a taxi from the airport tothe Hilton Omaha just a few minutes away. Your reservations are in thefirm's and your names. All room charges will be on a firm masteraccount; however, you will need a credit card when checking in forincidental charges if you incur them. [...]

yay! free transportation! free hotel stay! yay for free!

Our annual summer kickoff dinner at the Joslyn ArtMuseum for attorneys and spouses in honor of our summer associates willbe the first event on Monday, June 25. [...] In addition to enjoying dinner in a museum environment, you will have an opportunity to view a special exhibit that opened justlast week --- the Masterworks of the New Orleans Museum of Art, on loanto our museum. The exhibit's title is "Spared from the Storm." It isoutstanding.

the art museum and exhibit was definetely interesting, although after being in other cities such as philadelphia, paris, and los angeles, the selection was a little lacking. still they had a renoir, a nice degas section, and even an o'keefe. luckily they didn't embaress the summers too much at dinner and most of it was stress-free!

spent the time after dinner and before bed at the hilton bar, drinking with a couple of the other summers staying at the hotel...it's nice when you can drink on a tab that isn't your own!

Tuesday morning's program and lunch will be held inthe hotel's Blackstone Room. [...] After lunch we will visit Omaha's world-famous Henry Doorly Zoo ---known for its desert dome, aquarium, tropical rain forest, and a newgorilla valley habitat.

like the museum, the zoo was nice, but not really the best zoo i'd ever been to. i guess it doesn't really help that i don't even really like zoos. i think i'm used to zoos being completely outdoors and many of the animals at the henry doorly zoo were indoors so it almost felt more like a museum for natural science

Later in the afternoon we will head toSlowdown, a brand new club in a new complex near your hotel that alsohouses the headquarters of Saddle Creek Records (and its flagship bandBright Eyes) and Film Streams, a soon-to-open independent, non-profitmovie theater. [...]

getting a little tipsy in the middle of the day, after a humid aftenroon at the bar, with possible future colleagues...ah, good times, good times

After Slowdown, we will have dinner at V. Mertz, aclassic European restaurant in the Old Market.

definetely i place i'd go back to if i ever find myself in omaha again

All of us in Omaha look forward to hosting this fun annual event!Hopefully you will have enough energy left by Wednesday morning to makeyour departure flights on time.

got to catch a 7:15am flight from omaha back to phoenix...arriving in phoenix at 8am...and lucky for grace, just in time to get to work...but lucky for grace, i also got to go home early... :)

heather to the rescue!!!
(people who REALLY like grace visit grace more than once in AZ!!!)

haha...so either as an act of kindness or an act of insanity, heather came back out to AZ to visit little 'ol me and we spent the weekend watching movies, shopping, taking over mill (pics from the weekend), and general fun times becuase good company always equals a fun time!

sunday, june 24th :monday, june 25th :
  • thanks for taking me to the airport heather!

floating down the salt river...

spent last saturday tubing down the salt river...

"The river is formed in eastern Arizona in eastern Gila County, by the confluence of the White and Black rivers, in the valley between the Mogollon Rim and the Natanes Plateau. With the Black, it forms the boundary between the Fort Apache Indian Reservation to the north and the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation to the south. It flows northwest through Salt River Canyon, then southwest and west through the Tonto National Forest. It passes through the valley between the Mazatzal Mountains and Superstition Mountains and supplies several consecutive reservoirs: Lake Roosevelt (formed by Roosevelt Dam), Apache Lake (Horse Mesa Dam), Canyon LakeMormon Flat Dam), and Saguaro Lake (Stewart Mountain Dam). Near Fountain Hills it is joined by the Verde River. About five miles downstream of this point, the Granite Reef Diversion Dam diverts all remaining water into the Arizona and South canals, which deliver drinking and irrigation water to much of the Phoenix metropolitan area."

wow, so that's a lot of information...in a less information-dense-shell: it was a GREAT day...tanning, floating, eating, almost losing my bikini top...

(oh...and more tubing pics...: here)
